What are Acne Scars?

During an acne breakout, inflammation is often occurring underneath the skin. This inflammation can cause trauma to already vulnerable skin tissue, which can result in scarring.

There are various types of acne scars. Macular acne scars are flat scars with hyper/hypopigmentation. Atrophic acne scars are more characterized by a dip or indentation and seen more in clients with severe acne. Raised acne scars are often seen in individuals with darker skin tones.

Common Area Affected

Acne scars can be seen anywhere on the body, but are most commonly on the face.

Can Be Confused With:

• Hyperpigmentation & Hypopigmentation

• Sunspots & Freckles

• Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Please Note: It is important to speak with your medical provider or dermatologist first regarding any bump, lesion, or other unknown issue on the skin to rule out more serious skin conditions.
